History of the Clan

Randolph is a Scottish name, from an Old Gaelic compound name meaning shield and wolf. It is closely related to the name Randall. Clan Randolph was historically centered in Moray, in the highlands of northeast Scotland, and descended from the ancient Scottish tribe of Picts.

Randolph family history journeyed to the New World with Milward Randolph, who sailed to Virginia in 1621. Randolph genealogy includes such noteworthy individuals as 26-year West Virginia Senator Jennings Randolph; initial Continental Congress President Peyton Randolph; folklorist Vance Randolph; Grizzlies power forward Zach Randolph; and third baseman, manager, and coach Willie Larry Randolph.
